COPYEDITING

BASILIUS EIRENE: JURNAL AGAMA DAN PENDIDIKAN

1. Scope of Copyediting

Copyediting stage is conducted after manuscript is accepted and before layout. Focus of copyediting:

  1. Alignment of Writing Style: Ensure manuscript follows Basilius Eirene: Jurnal Agama dan Pendidikan template, APA 7th edition, and journal writing standards.
  2. Language Grammar: Correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, academic diction, and clarity for both Indonesian and English.
  3. Research Facts: Check consistency of research data, Bible verse citation format, table/figure numbering, and reference accuracy.
  4. Fault / Typographical Errors: Correct typos, double spaces, subheading format, italic/bold, and layout indicators.

2. Grading System

The copyeditor must assign one of the following grades to the manuscript after editing:

Grade Criteria Action
Very Good Manuscript meets all journal standards. Minor typo only. Clear language. Proper APA 7th. Template is fully followed. Proceed directly to Layout Editing.
Good Manuscript is good but needs minor corrections in grammar or formatting. Copyeditor corrects directly in OJS. No need to return to author.
Fair Manuscript needs moderate corrections in language, subheadings, or reference consistency. Copyeditor corrects and gives notes to author for confirmation in proofreading.
Poor Manuscript has serious language problems, inconsistent facts, or major formatting faults that affect readability. Return to author for revision before layout.

3. Copyedited Guidelines for Editor

  1. The manuscript editor must assign one of the following grades: Very Good, Good, Fair, and Poor. Grade must be written in the Discussion box in OJS copyediting stage.
  2. Provide comments on terms, sentences or paragraphs that are poor and require improvement. The editor may recommend corrections in these three areas to the author:
    • Alignment of writing style with journal template and APA 7th.
    • Language grammar and academic clarity.
    • Accuracy of research facts, data, citations, and references.
  3. Any typographical errors, subheading formats and indicators in the manuscript may be corrected directly by the editor. Use Track Changes or OJS copyediting tool. Allowed direct corrections include:
    • Spelling and punctuation.
    • Subheading levels (Heading 1, Heading 2).
    • Table and Figure format.
    • APA 7th reference format.
    • Bible verse format: e.g., John 3:16.

4. What Copyeditor Must NOT Do

  • Do not change research content, results, or theological interpretation.
  • Do not add new data or references.
  • Do not change author's argument.

5. Final Note

The editor may return the manuscript to the author for revision if grade is Poor. Author will be given 7-14 days to revise based on copyediting notes. If grade is Very Good, Good, or Fair, manuscript can proceed to layout editing stage.

Checklist for Copyeditor in OJS:
1. Download manuscript file from Copyediting stage.
2. Edit file.
3. Upload edited file in Copyedited section.
4. Assign Grade (Very Good / Good / Fair / Poor) in Discussion.
5. Click Complete if ready for layout.
