Sampai batas yang menyedihkan, orang Kristen menerima ritual Gereja sebagai pusaka suci tetapi membingungkan dari masa lalu Gereja. Ini untuk memperbaiki situasi ini. Alkitab dan Liturgi mencerahkan, lebih baik daripada yang pernah dilakukan sebelumnya, ikatan vital dan bermakna antara Alkitab dan liturgi. Fakta bahwa ritus-ritus liturgis dan perayaan-perayaan Gereja dimaksudkan, tidak hanya untuk menyampaikan rahmat sakramen-sakramen, tetapi untuk mengajar umat beriman dalam maknanya serta makna dari seluruh kehidupan Kristen. Melalui sakramen dalam perannya sebagai tanda-tanda itulah kita belajar. Agar nilainya akan dihargai, sakramen-sakramen dapat sekali lagi dianggap sebagai perpanjangan dari karya-karya besar Tuhan dalam Perjanjian Lama dan Perjanjian Baru.
